A heart of worship is one that has a crazy desire and love for
God. It is that
Hebrews 13:15 Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name.
The woman in Luke 7:37 had a different way of worshiping God. She dwelt at Jesus feat and wiped the feat with her tears applying them with the most expensive oil in town, the alabaster oil. She did not need to make confession of her sins to people or state her problems to the whole word; all she needed is to dwell at Jesus’ feat.
From this text, the author implores us to worship God without ceasing. He explains that, worship is the first fruit of our lips.
According to ancient literature and the bible, David was the best praise leader ever recorded in the bible.
He praised and danced to God regardless of who is watching and regardless of
his social status. He set aside 4000 Levites to praise and worship God with
music instruments and they were to worship God skillfully. (1chr 23:5)
David clearly understood the needs God had about music and
desired to fulfill them. He knew that, God cannot worship himself and that's why he's in need of true worshippers who can worship him in truth and spirit. John 3:23
Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.
God is all sufficient, but his sufficiency ends on worship. God knew that He can't worship Himself, that is even why he created for himself an Arch angel called lucifer who was skilled in Music.
Ecclesiastes 2:8 NKJV I acquired
male and female singers, the delights of the sons of men and musical
instruments of all kinds.
Delights of the sons of men in this case means he chose the
best among men and set them to worship God with him. Just because of being a
worshiper, God alludes to the fact that He loved David, He even states it
clearly that “David is a man after my own heart” (1 Sam 13:14)
It is clear that God’s love for music is beyond doubt and
that’s why he creates Lucifer to praise Him and even when he disobeyed, God
simply found people on earth to praise Him. This clearly shows that God has a
soft spot for Music and we can touch his heart by singing to him
Psalms 150:6 Let
everything that has breath praise the Lord
Psalms 147:1 NKJV
Praise the Lord, For it is good to sing praises to our God; For it is pleasant,
and praise is beautiful.
HOW TO HAVE A
HEART OF WORSHIP
Everyone desires to be a worshiper and to touch God’s heart.
Worshiping is not only singing but also playing instruments and giving words
of praises and adoration to God for His glory and might.
1.
For one to Worship God, you must understand
whom you are worshiping, you cannot worship something you don’t know,
something you have never encountered or even seen.
When you understand whom you are
worshiping, your way and style of worship changes. It changes from asking and
demanding from God to loving and adoring Him. You even become aggressive in
your worship and more committed.
The blind man in Luke 18:35 NKJV had a
heart of worship. I’m pretty sure many people used to seek Jesus’ attention by
shouting his name or doing crazy things, some like zacchaeaus who climbed a
tree. This blind man had a revelation, he refers to Jesus as the son of David, and
this attracts His attention towards him and becomes even more curious to listen
to him.
· Our way of worship attracts Jesus into our situations even more.
· We need to worship God with a
revelation.
Declaration: I want to dwell at Jesus’ feat and worship Him
for their, there is forgiveness of sins and providence.
2.
For
one to worship God WE MUST BE IN SPIRIT.
John 4:21-24 NKJV God
is a spirit and those who worship Him must do it in spirit and truth.
God is a spirit therefore we cannot worship him in flesh. For
us to liken to him and worship Him effectively and to touch His heart we must
do it in spirit.
Rev 4:2 NKJV …immediately
I was in the spirit and behold a throne set in heaven, and one sat on the
throne…
For John to have seen the throne that was set infront of Him,
it was a must that he should have gotten into the spirit. For us to see the
great things God is doing in our lives and to see his glory and plans, we must
get into the spirit.
3.
Worshipping
BEGINS FROM THE HEART.
Matt 5:23 NKJV
“Therefore if you bring your gift to the alter and there you remember that your
brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the alter and
go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your
gift”
For you to offer a gift of worship to God, you must do it
with a faithful heart, you should focus on the Lord alone, you should not have carried people in your heart.
You should not do it for your personal
gain or glory. It is not about you, it is about Him.
"When you rightly worship God You command the heavenly attention to yourself."
It is not about your sin, it is not about your personal
weaknesses, it is about your sincerity to
it and your intentions. David says that
he cannot give anything that does not pain him or cost him. We should always
give God the best we have.
2nd Cor 5:9 NKJV
Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to
Him
UNDERSTANDING WHOM YOU WORSHIP.
Rev 5:1-14
Rev 5:1-14
John gets into the spirit and is shown the things of the
throne. He immediately sees an angel proclaiming with a loud voice whether there
is someone worth to open the scroll and loose its seals. However there is found
no one in heaven, on earth and beneath the earth to do so.
Point: There could be an angel in heaven asking the same
question about our lives.
- · Who can heal disease
- ·
Who
can pay your school fees
- ·
Who
can help you manage your marriage issues etc
And yet no one in heaven, on earth and beneath the earth is
able to help us.
John weeps bitterly when he learns this. Lucky enough, there
comes one of the elders from the 24 elders and says to john “Do not weep”
Declaration: I am standing in the gap for my church, family
and society like this elder to ask them not to weep. This is because;
Rev 5:5 NKJV“Behold, the Lion of the tribe
of Judah, the root of David has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its
seven seals.
Point: The Lion of Judah has prevailed over my situations,
over my disease, over my joblessness, over my marriage (sigh of relief, what a
good news for the whole world)
V 6: And I looked, and
behold in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the
midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven
horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirit of God sent out into all the
earth.
When you read down the story, it clearly brings out Christ Jesus
as the Lamb of God who just prevailed over everything. When he takes the scroll
and opens it, that’s when heavens understands who He is, that He has prevailed
over death, over sin, over diseases over restlessness and has defeated the
devil for us. That’s when they stand up with music instruments and starts praising
him with songs and music instruments of all kind, they begin to sing songs of
praise to the Lamb of God.
Point:
When you understand who God is, then your way of praising him completely
changes.
v When you understand what He has done
for you, you find a better reason to praise him even more.
Rev 7:11-12 (NKJV) All
the angels stood around the throne and the four living creatures and fell on
their faces before the throne and worshipped God…
Phill 2:9 NKJV Therefore God also has exalted Him and given
Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee
should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the
earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the
glory of God the father.
WHAT WORSHIP DOES
- 1.
Worship
commands heavens and attracts heavenly attention to you.
- 2.
Worship
attracts God into our situation even without asking
- 3.
Worship
unlocks our hidden treasures in God
- 4. It delivers us David. David used music in wars and in prayer
- 5. Worship in itself is a show of faith for you cannot worship God when you do not believe in him. It clearly shows that whoever is worshiping Him knows Him, loves Him and has faith in Him
Mark 9:39 NKJV But Jesus said “Do not forbid him for no one who works
miracles in my name can soon afterwards speak evil of me.
- 6.
Worship
causes the move of God. This brings about deliverance to His people, healing and breaking of satanic bonds in people’s lives. Sometimes we don’t need to
stress ourselves lying hands on people and crying a lot, we should only worship
and people are set free.
